misconceptions about bipolar

well hi there thank you for checking out my ramblings
i figured in this un-thrilling installment i might as well talk about something i knew a little about.

as mentioned previously, i was diagnosed bipolar when i was a teen... there are many misconceptions about people with bipolar, i hope i can clear these up for you
...................................................................
no we do not spend half the year at the north pole and the other half at the south

nor is a person with bipolar any more likely to turn into an axe wielding maniac than any one else

(were far more lightly to hurt ourselves)

its not contagious..... so stop crossing the bloody street when you see some one you know has bipolar, or... i might well actually become the affor mentioned axe wielding maniac out of sheer frustration
(not i hasten to add because of the bipolar)
its not simply a case of getting the blues and having to snap out of it. there's an actual chemical/biological hell going on. you can no more tell either phase of it to bugger off than you could tell diabetes to go away

were not a completely different alien species, with three heads that are lightly to start spinning around at the drop of a hat

bipolar people are not in actual fact mentally deficient
so please stop asking us in slow carefully voices AND HOW ARE YOU FEELING TODAY using a tone that you would generally reserve for very young children and imbecile's...
(trust me most of the time you really don't want to know how we feel anyway ... and if you do I'm sure i will describe some of it later)
most bipolar sufferers are not crackers, crazy, banana's, nuts or raving loons (I'm a proud exception)

(although a lot of us can act that way some of the time .... i hope to explain why later)

they can be anybody from the granny next door, to the average Joe (or Jolene)

(err ok that might not be the best granny example)

high achievers, over achievers, low achievers, no achievers

(an example of three category's by today's, rather shallow, standards)
they can be famous, infamous, or nobody special at all

but of course all bipolars have one thing in common

we can all fly, read minds and have xray vision as well...

"what??huh??"...

nah just joking (wouldn't that be freaking awesome though?)

  1. ohhh i just saw this and had to pop it in here

It's rather splendid to think of all those great men and women who appear to have presented symptoms that allow us to describe them as bipolar. Whether it's Hemingway, Van Gogh... Robert Schumann has been mentioned... Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Plath... some of them with rather grim ends.

  2. haha some of that was pretty funny, but oh so true! I get really tired of the media thinking bipolars "off their meds" are crazing murderous lunatics when, you're right, we're more likely to hurt ourselves instead. Great post : )

  4. Thank you for being so humorous but blunt about it. People with BP are just people and sometimes are the most unique and talented people in life!
